Tokyo Disney crowd calendar: the short answer

Go on a weekday: in our Tokyo Disney record for 3–8 October 2026, the top 10 Disneyland rides averaged 36 min on weekdays and 58 min at weekends. Mark the weekdays that are not public holidays on your calendar first.

  • Weekdays: the top 10 rides averaged 36 min at Disneyland and 68 min at DisneySea.
  • Weekends: the same rides averaged 58 min at Disneyland and 74 min at DisneySea.
  • Busiest day: Saturday 3 October, with 73 min at Disneyland and 86 min at DisneySea.
  • Shortest hour: 7 p.m. at both parks, on weekends and on weekdays.

Six days in early October, during the Halloween season, is a small sample. Other months and holidays can look very different. Before you buy, check the Japanese public holidays and the Park Operation Calendar, which lists park hours and early closing days.

Ticket prices also change by date, and both parks charged the same price on every date we checked. Our Tokyo Disneyland ticket guide explains the ticket types and how to buy.

Weekdays vs weekends: the waits we recorded

japan-japan.com recorded the posted standby time for every attraction at both parks from Saturday 3 to Thursday 8 October 2026. We logged each change through ThemeParks.wiki. These are the times the parks show to guests, not queues we timed and not official averages. We averaged each ride between 9 a.m. and 8 p.m. while it was running.

Next we averaged the 10 rides with the longest waits at each park, day by day. At Tokyo Disneyland they averaged 73 min on Saturday and 43 min on Sunday. From Monday to Thursday the figures were 39, 33, 34 and 38 min. At Tokyo DisneySea the six days read 86, 61, 67, 65, 61 and 79 min (data: Powered by ThemeParks.wiki).

What our six days of wait times showed

The illustration sums up three points from these numbers. Saturday stood out at both parks. Sunday at Disneyland was 30 min shorter than Saturday and close to the weekday figures. So a Sunday is a fair choice when no weekday fits your trip.

DisneySea worked differently. Its weekday average of 68 min was only 6 min below the weekend average of 74 min, and Thursday 8 October reached 79 min. A few big rides stayed long every day. Anna and Elsa’s Frozen Journey averaged 125 min, Journey to the Center of the Earth 122 min and Soaring: Fantastic Flight 120 min.

At Disneyland the weekend gap was widest on the popular rides. The Happy Ride with Baymax averaged 85 min at the weekend and 50 min on weekdays. Big Thunder Mountain went from 65 min to 32 min. Enchanted Tale of Beauty and the Beast had the longest average of all at 83 min.

Best time of day at Disneyland and DisneySea

The last hour we counted, 7 p.m., had the shortest waits at both parks. At Tokyo Disneyland the top 10 rides averaged 44 min at 7 p.m. at the weekend and 25 min on weekdays. The longest hour was 10 a.m., with 70 min at the weekend and 43 min on weekdays. A second peak came at 5 p.m., when the weekend average hit 68 min.

DisneySea stayed busy for longer. At the weekend its top 10 rides peaked at 84 min at 3 p.m., and on weekdays at 79 min at 10 a.m. Waits fell only after 6 p.m. At 7 p.m. they were down to 43 min at the weekend and 38 min on weekdays.

Each big ride had its own busy hour:

  • Right after opening: Enchanted Tale of Beauty and the Beast was longest from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m.
  • Late morning: The Happy Ride with Baymax, Anna and Elsa’s Frozen Journey, Soaring and Toy Story Mania! were longest from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m.
  • Early afternoon: Splash Mountain, Big Thunder Mountain and Journey to the Center of the Earth were longest from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m.

Some rides never got long. At Disneyland, Pirates of the Caribbean averaged 12 min and “it’s a small world” 10 min. At DisneySea, Scuttle’s Scooters averaged 14 min and Sindbad’s Storybook Voyage 6 min. Fill the busy hours with rides like these and save the big ones for the evening.

The evening dip fits the two evening tickets, which the illustration shows next to two other choices. The After 5 Passport is sold for weekdays from 5 p.m., at ¥6,000 to ¥6,600 for adults. The After 3 Passport covers weekends and holidays from 3 p.m., at ¥7,900 to ¥9,900. An After 5 ticket includes the 7 p.m. hour, when the weekday average at Disneyland fell to 25 min.

October: Disney Halloween runs at both parks until 31 October 2026. Full character costumes are allowed from 16 to 31 October, but not from 1 to 15 October. The Tokyo Disneyland official parades and shows page lists the Halloween parade at about 45 minutes. Adult prices range from ¥10,900 to ¥12,400.

November: Disney Christmas runs from 11 November to 25 December at both parks. November has the cheapest dates on sale: ¥9,900 from 2 to 6 November, including Culture Day on Tuesday 3 November. Our Tokyo Disneyland Christmas guide lists the shows by date.

December: Christmas runs until 25 December. Tokyo Disney Resort has said there will be no “New Year’s Eve” program at either park on 31 December 2026. Banks close from 31 December to 3 January. Our New Year in Japan holiday guide covers what else closes.

January: Haunted Mansion “Holiday Nightmare” ends on 7 January 2027. January has the lowest price in the calendar, ¥8,900, on 6, 7 and 8 January. Several big rides close for work from 6 January, so read the closures section before you pick a cheap day.

January is also the coldest month. The Japan Meteorological Agency Tokyo climate normals page, shown below in Japanese, gives the 1991 to 2020 averages. Tokyo averages 5.4°C in January.

Japanese holidays and long weekends to plan around

Public holidays create long weekends, and some of the highest prices sit next to them. These are the holidays from October to February:

  • Sports Day: Monday 12 October 2026, a three-day weekend from Saturday 10 October.
  • Culture Day: Tuesday 3 November 2026.
  • Labor Thanksgiving Day: Monday 23 November 2026, a three-day weekend from Saturday 21 November.
  • New Year: New Year’s Day is Friday 1 January 2027.
  • Coming of Age Day: Monday 11 January 2027, a three-day weekend from Saturday 9 January.
  • National Foundation Day: Thursday 11 February 2027.

Our Japan public holidays 2026 calendar and Japan public holidays 2027 calendar list every date with its weekday. The November holidays page covers that month’s two days off.

Closures and early closing days

Most dates in the official calendar run from 9:00 to 21:00. Five dates close early:

  • Friday 27 November 2026: Tokyo DisneySea, 9:00 to 18:30.
  • Friday 4 December 2026: Tokyo Disneyland, 9:00 to 18:30.
  • Friday 22 January 2027: Tokyo DisneySea, 9:00 to 18:30.
  • Thursday 28 January 2027: both parks, 9:00 to 19:00.
  • Friday 5 February 2027: Tokyo DisneySea, 9:00 to 18:30.

An 18:30 closing cuts out the 7 p.m. hour, which had the shortest waits in our record. For an evening visit, avoid these dates at that park.

The official temporary closure lists show these closures now or soon:

  • Indiana Jones Adventure: Temple of the Crystal Skull (DisneySea): closed until 29 November 2026.
  • Tower of Terror (DisneySea): closed from 28 September to 5 November 2026.
  • Dumbo The Flying Elephant (Disneyland): closed until 22 October 2026.
  • The Diamond Variety Muster show (Disneyland): closed until 20 November 2026.
  • Cinderella’s Fairy Tale Hall (Disneyland): closed from 1 October 2026, with no end date yet.

Planned closures in early 2027:

  • Peter Pan’s Flight (Disneyland): 6 January to 2 February.
  • Jungle Cruise: Wildlife Expeditions (Disneyland): 6 January to 30 March.
  • Splash Mountain (Disneyland): 7 January to 4 February.
  • Haunted Mansion (Disneyland): 8 January to 4 February.
  • Star Tours: The Adventures Continue (Disneyland): 5 to 18 February.
  • Journey to the Center of the Earth (DisneySea): 8 January to 8 March.

These closures overlap with the cheapest days. The ¥8,900 dates of 6 to 8 January fall in the week that four Disneyland rides close. If those rides matter to you, pick a date after the Splash Mountain and Haunted Mansion closures end on 4 February.

Check these four things before you pick a date. Have you checked all four? Park hours on the Park Operation Calendar.
Check these four things before you pick a date

The checklist in the illustration covers the four things to look at before you buy. Both the Tokyo Disneyland official attractions page and the Tokyo DisneySea official attractions page warn of closures without notice. Tickets for each date go on sale two months ahead at 14:00 Japan time.

On the Park Operation Calendar, each date carries a mark. 〇 (maru) means tickets available, △ (sankaku) means few tickets remaining, and × (batsu) means tickets unavailable.

Tokyo Disneyland weather and rainy days

Tokyo Disneyland weather in this season goes from mild to cold. Japan Meteorological Agency normals put Tokyo at 18.0°C in October and 12.5°C in November. December averages 7.7°C, January 5.4°C and February 6.1°C. January lows average 1.2°C, and the parks stay open until 21:00, so bring a warm layer for the evening.

Item Value

Nov 12.5 °C
Dec 7.7 °C

The chart shows those five monthly averages. October is also the wettest of these months, with 234.8 mm of rain on average. December to February each get under 60 mm. Our Japan temperature by month guide compares Tokyo with other cities.

Tokyo Disney Resort’s rainy-day guide says three-quarters of the attractions are indoors, so rain has little effect on them. At DisneySea, Mermaid Lagoon has many indoor attractions, and you can stay dry even in the queue.

Mermaid Lagoon, in the photo, is the area the official rainy-day guide names. Its rides kept short waits in our record. Flounder’s Flying Fish Coaster averaged 23 min and Jumpin’ Jellyfish 13 min.

  • Rain gear: the parks sell umbrellas, folding umbrellas, rain ponchos, stroller covers and socks.
  • Shows: do not open an umbrella in a show viewing area, or a Cast Member may guide you to another spot.
  • Fireworks: they can be canceled for weather, and the park announces it on the day.
  • Refunds: there are none for bad weather. An unused ticket bought on the official website or app can move to another date, free and as often as you like.
  • Rainy-day pin: Jungle Carnival at Disneyland and Abu’s Bazaar at DisneySea give out a pin only on rainy days.

Premier Access and Standby Pass on busy days

On a Saturday or a holiday, Disney Premier Access is the paid way to cut a long wait. You buy it in the Tokyo Disney Resort App after you enter the park and pick a time. It cannot be bought outside the park or before opening. The Tokyo Disney Resort official Disney Premier Access page lists the current prices.

At Disneyland, Enchanted Tale of Beauty and the Beast costs 2,500 yen per access. The Happy Ride with Baymax, Splash Mountain and Big Thunder Mountain cost 1,500 yen each. At DisneySea, Anna and Elsa’s Frozen Journey and Soaring: Fantastic Flight cost 2,500 yen. Toy Story Mania! costs 2,000 yen.

Parades are covered too. The Halloween and Christmas parades each cost 3,500 yen per access for a set viewing spot. Each park ticket buys one Premier Access at a time, and you can buy the next one 60 minutes later, or sooner once your admission time passes. Children aged 3 and under go free with an adult who holds one. You cannot cancel or change after paying.

The Standby Pass is free. The Tokyo Disney Resort official Standby Pass page says it runs only for set periods and places. At Disneyland the current list is shops, capsule toys and games such as Disney & Co. You get a return time in the app and join the queue then. There is no limit on how many you can get, and issue times vary by day.

The free 40th Anniversary Priority Pass ended on 31 August 2026, so older guides that mention it are out of date. Our Tokyo Disney Resort App guide walks through the app screens.

What visitors in Japan say about crowds and timing

In October 2026 we ran an online survey of people living in Japan who have been to Tokyo Disneyland or Tokyo DisneySea. 123 people answered; after removing answers that clearly contradicted themselves, 100 remained. The numbers below are shares of those respondents, not of all visitors. See the full survey results and how we asked.

On their most recent visit, 74.0% (74 of 100) went on a weekday and 48.0% (48 of 100) arrived before the park opened. For 62.0% (62 of 100), the longest wait for one attraction was an hour or more, and for 15.0% (15 of 100) it was two hours or more, by their own memory. 62.0% (62 of 100) said it was a little crowded but still fun; 27.0% (27 of 100) found it too crowded to go on some rides or to enjoy it.

The times of year they would avoid: Golden Week (70.0%), spring break (late March to early April) (63.0%), New Year holidays (54.0%) and Christmas season (November–December) (52.0%). Asked the best time to go, the most common answer was September–October (19.0%).

“To avoid crowds, don’t head for the popular rides first thing in the morning. Ride when everyone else is eating, at lunch, around 3 p.m. and in the early evening, and eat at other times. Shifting your timing like that keeps the waits short. Also, the posted wait times are not fully live, so even if a wait looks short, it may have grown by the time you get there.”
