When flights are delayed or cancelled
Where to look when a flight in Japan is delayed or cancelled: the airline, the airport's own board for all 32 airports, and the Japan Meteorological Agency when a typhoon is involved.
Updated September 30, 2026
A delay is not announced in one place. The airline decides whether your flight goes; the airport tells you what is happening on the ground; and when a typhoon is involved, the forecast that both of them are working from comes from the Japan Meteorological Agency. Here is where to look, in the order that is useful.
Check in this order
- Your airline. Only the airline can tell you whether your flight is operating. Every carrier flying in Japan publishes a flight status page; the link is on each airline’s page below.
- The airport. The airport site carries the arrivals and departures board for every airline at once, which is faster when several flights are affected. Links to all 32 are below.
- The Japan Meteorological Agency, if weather is the reason. Airlines in Japan often cancel the day before a typhoon arrives, based on this forecast.
When a typhoon is forecast
The Japan Meteorological Agency publishes typhoon tracks and warnings in English, and in fourteen more languages on its multilingual site. Airlines watch these and decide in advance: a flight is frequently cancelled the evening before, not on the day.

What the airline will do for you — rebook, refund, or neither — is set by that airline’s own conditions of carriage, not by law. Japan has no equivalent of the European compensation rules. Read the carrier’s own wording before you agree to anything at the counter.
Airport by airport
Each airport’s own site has its live arrivals and departures board. Our page for the same airport has the way into the city, which is what you need if you are rebooked onto a flight from somewhere else.
