What the pass covers

  • Non-reserved seats on JR trains between Nagoya and Toyama (Takayama Line) and between Nagoya and Shinano-Omachi (Chuo, Shinonoi and Oito lines).
  • All transport on the Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route between Dentetsu-Toyama and Shinano-Omachi.
  • Non-reserved seats on Toyama Chiho Railway limited express trains between Dentetsu-Toyama and Tateyama.

Not covered

  • Sights and facilities off the lines on the map may cost extra.
  • The fare from Toyama Station to Unazuki Station is not included.

Where to buy it

  • Online on JR-WEST ONLINE TRAIN RESERVATION, up to one month before travel.
  • From a travel agent outside Japan as an exchange order (MCO); exchange it in Japan within 3 months of issue.
  • At designated station ticket offices in Japan; bring your passport.
Who can buy it
Only for foreign travelers with a passport issued outside Japan and a Temporary Visitor stamp or seal from immigration.

Seats and using the pass

Seats
Reserved seats on JR conventional lines can be used up to 4 times.
  • Between Tateyama and Ogizawa, show the pass at the Tateyama or Ogizawa Station counter to get a boarding pass.
  • The validity starts on the start date you specify.
  • You can reserve seats at a reserved seat ticket machine by inserting your pass; up to four passes at once.

Refunds

Refunds carry a handling fee. If you cancel because part of the Alpine Route is suspended, you get a refund without fees at the JR Central counter that issued the pass.

Good to know

  • The Alpine Route gets very crowded from its opening day to early May, in mid-August and in early October.
  • Pass holders get 10% off the Kurobe Gorge Railway fare from Unazuki to Kanetsuri and Keyakidaira.
  • Pick up an online booking at a station with your passport, the credit card used and the reservation number.
  • Only the person it is issued to can use the pass.
