teamLab Tokyo vs Kyoto, Osaka, Fukuoka: Which to Visit 2026
The chart below shows the highest adult price we found at each museum from 7 October to 5 December 2026. The notes give the lowest. Tokyo was the most expensive pair, and the Osaka night garden was the cheapest.

| Item | Value | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Planets, Tokyo | 5600 yen | Lowest 3,800 yen |
| Borderless, Tokyo | 5600 yen | Lowest 3,800 yen |
| Biovortex, Kyoto | 4800 yen | Lowest 4,000 yen |
| Forest, Fukuoka | 2400 yen | Same price every date |
| Botanical Garden, Osaka | 2200 yen | Lowest 2,000 yen |
Fukuoka was the only museum with one fixed adult price: ¥2,400 on every date and at every entry time. Kyoto stayed between ¥4,000 and ¥4,800.
teamLab Borderless vs Planets: the key differences
The first difference between teamLab Borderless and Planets is your feet. At Planets you take off your shoes at the locker area, take off socks and stockings too, and walk barefoot. The teamLab Planets TOKYO official page says some rooms have water up to knee height, even for adults. The water is chlorinated.
Borderless is a walk-through museum where you keep your shoes on. The teamLab Borderless TOKYO official FAQ says about 70% of visitors come from overseas, and English-speaking staff work inside.
The photo below shows visitors wading through the water floor at Planets in Toyosu.

Planets: water, mirrors and what to wear
The koi water artwork needs an inseam of at least 40 cm. Smaller children can go in only if an adult carries them.
Some floors are mirrors. Skirts or wide trousers may show your underwear, so Planets lends free shorts in sizes XS to 6L, plus wraps. Heel-less sandals and high heels do not work in some rooms, and rental shoes are free.
If your clothes get wet, change or dry off before the next room. Towels are for rent.
Free lockers sit after the entrance gate and measure 23 x 34 x 37 cm. You cannot carry anything into the artwork rooms. Larger suitcases go in the stroller area, where you lock them yourself with a wire lock.
Photos and video are fine without flash. Tripods, monopods and selfie sticks 30 cm or longer stay outside. The outdoor Moss Garden stays open in light rain, but it closes in typhoon-level wind or heavy rain.
The illustration below sums up four checks to make before you leave for Planets.

Borderless: shoes on and fully indoors
Borderless sits on the B1 floor of Azabudai Hills Garden Plaza B. Kamiyacho Station (Hibiya Line, Exit 5) and Roppongi-itchome Station (Namboku Line, Exit 4) both connect to it underground. You can reach the entrance without going outside, so rain and heat do not matter.
The teamLab Borderless TOKYO official page bans items over 50 cm inside. Lockers are free, and strollers go to the luggage room. Some floors are mirrors here too, and you can borrow wrap skirts near those works.
Borderless has no restaurant or cafe inside, only vending machines. Planets has ramen and cafes inside, open 10:30 to 21:30, for ticket holders only.
Hours, last entry and time needed
Planets opens 8:00 to 22:00 daily, and on 31 December it closes at 20:00. Borderless usually opens 8:30 to 21:00. Some days run until 22:00, and on 17 November it closes at 17:00. Last entry at both is 1 hour before closing.
Plan on about 2 hours. At Borderless there is no time limit once you are inside. At Planets the time on your ticket is the entry slot, and you may still wait 30 to 60 minutes at the door.
All five teamLab museums side by side
If you are planning teamLab in Japan beyond Tokyo, you have three more choices: Kyoto, Osaka and Fukuoka. The table below compares all five on the station walk, opening hours, bags and the adult price we found.
| Museum and nearest station | Hours | Lockers and bags | Adult price we found |
|---|---|---|---|
| Planets, Toyosu: Shin-Toyosu Station, 1 min walk | 8:00 to 22:00 | Free lockers, 23 x 34 x 37 cm | ¥3,800 to ¥5,600 |
| Borderless, Azabudai Hills: Kamiyacho Station Exit 5, 2 min walk | Usually 8:30 to 21:00 | Free lockers; items over 50 cm not allowed | ¥3,800 to ¥5,600 |
| Biovortex, Kyoto: Kyoto Station Hachijo East Gate, 7 min walk | 9:00 to 21:00, last entry 19:30 | Items over 50 cm not allowed | ¥4,000 to ¥4,800 |
| Botanical Garden, Osaka: Nagai Station Exit 3, 10 min walk | 18:00 to 21:30 from 10 Oct | No storage; no carry-on suitcases | ¥2,000 to ¥2,200 |
| Forest, Fukuoka: next to Mizuho PayPay Dome | 11:00 to 19:00 weekdays, 10:00 to 19:00 weekends | Paid coin lockers on 1F and 3F | ¥2,400 |
Only Planets asks you to go barefoot and walk through water. Two places have outdoor parts. The Osaka garden opens only after dark, and Planets has its outdoor Moss Garden.
Check the closed days before you book. The dates below come from each museum’s official page, checked on 7 October 2026.

teamLab ticket prices: our 60-day check
Every museum sells tickets for a set date and entry time. In Tokyo, Kyoto and Osaka the adult price changes with the date, and in Tokyo it also changes with the time of day. The illustration below shows how booking works on the official ticket sites.

At Planets, Borderless and Kyoto, an official-site ticket can be changed up to 3 times, until 2 hours before your entry time. None of the three gives refunds. Planets sells no tickets at the door. At Borderless and Kyoto, a ticket bought on site costs ¥200 more than online.
What the official from price means
Each museum page quotes a from price for adults. It is ¥3,800 at Planets, ¥3,400 at Borderless, ¥3,800 in Kyoto, ¥1,800 in Osaka and ¥2,400 in Fukuoka. That is the bottom of the price range. You may not see it on your dates.
japan-japan.com checked every date and entry time on the official ticket sites on 7 October 2026. The window ran 60 days, from 7 October to 5 December. The lowest adult price at Borderless in that window was ¥3,800, not ¥3,400.
Kyoto never went below ¥4,000, and Osaka never went below ¥2,000. The median adult price at both Tokyo museums was ¥5,200.
Later entry times cost less in Tokyo
At both Tokyo museums, the earlier you enter, the more you pay. The chart below shows the average adult price for four entry-time bands over the 60 days.

| Item | Value |
|---|---|
| Planets, before 11:00 | 5416 yen |
| Planets, 11:00-14:59 | 5294 yen |
| Planets, 15:00-17:59 | 5112 yen |
| Planets, from 18:00 | 4826 yen |
| Borderless, before 11:00 | 5414 yen |
| Borderless, 11:00-14:59 | 5248 yen |
| Borderless, 15:00-17:59 | 5010 yen |
| Borderless, from 18:00 | 4783 yen |
At Planets, entry before 11:00 averaged ¥5,416, and entry from 18:00 averaged ¥4,826. Borderless followed the same pattern, from ¥5,414 down to ¥4,783. The cheapest single slot at Planets was 20:30, at an average of ¥4,593.
Weekends did not cost more. Planets averaged ¥5,171 on weekdays and ¥5,174 on weekends and public holidays. Borderless averaged ¥5,128 and ¥5,136.
At both museums, each day’s prices ran ¥4,800 to ¥5,600 from 7 October to 15 November. They eased to ¥4,400 to ¥5,200 from 16 to 20 November, then ¥4,200 to ¥5,000 until 30 November. The cheapest days were 1 to 5 December, at ¥3,800 to ¥5,000.
Sold-out entry times
Tokyo’s popular slots go first. When we checked, 166 of 1,508 Planets entry times (11%) were already sold out. Another 108 had only a few tickets left. At Borderless, 81 of 1,372 entry times (6%) were gone. No date was fully sold out at either museum.
The busiest dates were 10 to 12 October. Planets had 16 sold-out entry times on 12 October, a public holiday, and 15 on 10 October. Check our public holidays in 2026 page before you pick a date.
Kyoto, Osaka and Fukuoka had no sold-out entry times at all. Borderless releases tickets around the 1st of the month, two months before the visit. Its ticket site lists 2 November at 12:00 for January 2027 tickets, marked tentative.

teamLab Kyoto vs Tokyo: Biovortex
teamLab Biovortex Kyoto opened on 7 October 2025 as a permanent museum. The teamLab Biovortex Kyoto official page calls it the largest teamLab museum in Japan, with more than 50 artworks over 10,000 square metres. It is a 7-minute walk from the Hachijo East Gate of Kyoto Station.
The photo below shows the Hachijo side of Kyoto Station, the side to use for Biovortex.

The table below compares Biovortex with the two Tokyo museums on the points that differ most.
| Biovortex, Kyoto | Planets, Tokyo | Borderless, Tokyo | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Feet | Shoes on. | Barefoot, water to the knee. | Shoes on. |
| Hours | 9:00 to 21:00. | 8:00 to 22:00. | Usually 8:30 to 21:00. |
| Adult price we found | ¥4,000 to ¥4,800. | ¥3,800 to ¥5,600. | ¥3,800 to ¥5,600. |
| Sold-out entry times | None. | 166 of 1,508. | 81 of 1,372. |
Biovortex opens 9:00 to 21:00, with last entry at 19:30. It closes on 17 November, 19 November and 15 December 2026. From the Keihan Line, Shichijo Station is an 11-minute walk.
There is no water room and no barefoot floor. The Athletic Area bans high heels, sandals and clogs. You can rent sneakers there, but teamLab asks you to bring your own. Items over 50 cm cannot go in. There is no cafe, only vending machines.
Adults paid ¥4,000 to ¥4,800 online in our check. The price barely moved with the time of day, except the 19:00 slot, which averaged ¥4,366. The cheapest date was 30 November, and no entry time had sold out.
Choose Kyoto if you want a teamLab visit without wet feet, or if your trip centres on Kyoto. Choose Tokyo if the water rooms at Planets are the point. January 2027 tickets for Kyoto go on sale on 30 October at 12:00.
teamLab Osaka and Fukuoka: night garden and Forest
Osaka and Fukuoka are the two cheapest teamLab museums in Japan.
teamLab Botanical Garden Osaka
It is an outdoor museum in Nagai Botanical Garden, open only at night. It has been permanent since 29 July 2022. The teamLab Botanical Garden Osaka official page lists 18:00 to 21:30 from 10 October 2026, with last entry at 20:30.
From 28 October to 1 November and from 3 to 8 November it stays open until 22:30, with last entry at 21:30.

The paths are dark and rough. Wear sneakers, long sleeves and long trousers, and use insect repellent. The teamLab Botanical Garden Osaka official FAQ says there is nowhere to store bags, and carry-on suitcases cannot go in. Leave your luggage at the hotel first.
The garden opens in rain. A storm warning, heavy-rain warning or thunder advisory may delay or close it. Adults paid ¥2,200 online on most dates in our check, and ¥2,000 on 29 and 30 November. Same-day tickets at the gate cost adults ¥200 more.
Nagai Station on the Osaka Metro Midosuji Line is a 10-minute walk from Exit 3. The JR Hanwa Line’s Nagai Station is 12 minutes from its East Exit.
teamLab Forest Fukuoka
teamLab Forest Fukuoka is on the 5th floor of BOSS E・ZO FUKUOKA, next to the Mizuho PayPay Dome. It has been open since 21 July 2020. The teamLab Forest Fukuoka official page lists 11:00 to 19:00 on weekdays and 10:00 to 19:00 on weekends and holidays.
Last admission on 7 October was 18:30. Hours can change on dome night-game and event days. High heels, sandals and clogs are not allowed in many areas. Bags over 50 cm go in the paid coin lockers on the 1st or 3rd floor.

Getting there from the airport
From Haneda, teamLab gives 40 minutes to Borderless by train. Take the Keikyu Line, change to the Hibiya Line at Higashi-Ginza and get off at Kamiyacho. From Narita it takes 70 to 90 minutes, changing from the Keisei Line to the Hibiya Line at Ueno.
If your hotel is in Roppongi, our Haneda Airport to Roppongi page lists 37 minutes and ¥550 by Keikyu Line and Toei subway.
Planets is 1 minute on foot from the North Exit of Shin-Toyosu Station on the Yurikamome. By car or taxi it is 15 minutes from Haneda on the expressway. A taxi from Tokyo Station takes 15 minutes.
To reach Tokyo Station first, see Haneda Airport to Tokyo Station: the Keikyu Line and JR take 33 minutes for ¥540. From Narita, the Narita Express takes 53 minutes and costs ¥3,140, as our Narita Airport to Tokyo Station page shows.
For Kyoto, our Kansai Airport to Kyoto page has the Haruka express at 75 minutes for ¥2,200.
For the Osaka garden, see Kansai Airport to Tennoji: Haruka takes 30 minutes for ¥1,300. Tennoji is on both the Midosuji Line and the JR Hanwa Line, and both lines stop at a Nagai Station.
From Fukuoka Airport, our Fukuoka Airport to Tenjin page lists 11 minutes and ¥260 by subway. The BOSS E・ZO FUKUOKA official access page puts Tojinmachi, the nearest subway stop, about 5 minutes from Tenjin. Bus 139 runs from the Domestic Terminal South stop to the Mizuho PayPay Dome stops.
The dome’s deck leads straight to the 3rd floor of the building. The photo below shows BOSS E・ZO FUKUOKA beside the dome.

Pay for these rides with an IC card. A Suica card covers trains, subways and buses in Tokyo, and an ICOCA card does the same in Kyoto and Osaka. If you will ride the subway several times in Tokyo, look at the Tokyo Subway Ticket. It covers all Tokyo Metro and Toei Subway lines, including the Hibiya Line to Kamiyacho.

Which teamLab to choose for your trip
Pick the museum that fits your route and the kind of visit you want. Each one suits a different trip.
- Tokyo, with water and bare feet: Planets. It is scheduled to run until the end of 2027, so 2026 and 2027 trips are the window.
- Tokyo, shoes on or a rainy day: Borderless. It is fully indoors and connects underground to two subway stations.
- Kyoto by day: Biovortex, a 7-minute walk from Kyoto Station, open from 9:00.
- Osaka by night: Botanical Garden, outdoors and open from 18:00.
- Fukuoka: Forest, next to the dome, at ¥2,400 for adults on every date we checked.
The illustration below matches each kind of trip to a museum.

Late autumn is a good time to go. The cheapest Tokyo dates in our check were 1 to 5 December. Tokyo’s sample maple turns red around 28 November in an average year, as our Tokyo autumn leaves page shows. See Japan in November and Japan in December for what else is on.
