Matcha Souvenirs From Japan: Sweets at 12 of 15 Tea Brands
On 19 October 2026 we looked at the online shops of the 15 brands in our list of matcha brands and shops in Japan. 12 have a sweets section: Marukyu Koyamaen, Nakamura Tokichi, Gion Tsujiri, Itohkyuemon, Fukujuen, THE MATCHA TOKYO, Tsuen, Jugetsudo, Saijoen, Hoshino Seichaen, Morihan and Nanaya. Ippodo, Kanbayashi Shunsho and Horii Shichimeien sell tea, so from them you take home matcha in a tin or bag.
The drawing below sums up the count. Every price in this article comes from an official shop or product page.

For each brand we wrote down up to 8 matcha sweets. That gave 63 sweets with a listed price. 40 of the 63 say the price includes tax, and those 40 are the base for the price range and the median. We left out bulk boxes and sale prices. We also do not rank taste, so this guide tells you what each brand sells, in what size, and for how much.
The table shows which brands sell sweets and how many we noted for each one.
| Brands | Has sweets | Sweets noted |
|---|---|---|
| Saijoen, Morihan | Yes | 8 each |
| Itohkyuemon, Fukujuen | Yes | 7 each |

Three brands in the table, Marukyu Koyamaen, THE MATCHA TOKYO and Hoshino Seichaen, print no tax wording next to their prices. We show those prices as the shop lists them. The other brands mark most prices as including tax.
Matcha KitKat in Japan: flavours, prices and gift shops
Nestlé Japan’s KitKat site lists 4 matcha KitKats. Two come in 10-piece packs: Koi Matcha and Itohkyuemon Uji Matcha. Two come in 9-piece packs: Ito En Matcha Latte and Ito En Matcha Chocolat. The Nestlé Japan KitKat Koi Matcha product page gives the pack size but no price. The pages for the other three show no price either.
For the Uji Matcha KitKat, the Nestlé Japan KitKat regional gift line page files it under gotouchi, the regional gift line. That page also shows no price.

The only price we found sits on the tea house’s side. The Itohkyuemon online shop Uji Matcha KitKat listing shows the 10-piece box at 1,080 yen with tax. On 19 October 2026 the same listing was marked 在庫切れ (zaiko-gire, out of stock) and said sales had ended.
Itohkyuemon is an Uji tea house with 5 shops in Uji and Kyoto city in our Itohkyuemon shop hours and matcha prices page. Its Uji main store opens 10:00 to 18:00, and it also has a shop at Kyoto Station.
Nestlé Japan’s own online store sells only the custom KitKat Original service, where you order a box with your own design. The regular matcha packs are not on it.
The drawing below puts the three KitKat facts side by side: 4 flavours with no prices, one price from Itohkyuemon, and 4 gift shops.

The Nestlé Japan KitKat Gift Shop locations page lists 4 KitKat Gift Shops. Nestlé says they stock both its regional souvenir series and its standard KitKat line. Each shop follows the closing days of the mall or department store it sits in.
- Rinku: inside Rinku Premium Outlets in Izumisano, Osaka Prefecture, 10:00 to 20:00.
- Namba Marui: in the Namba Marui department store in Osaka, 11:00 to 20:00.

Price per piece: what a box of matcha souvenirs costs in Japan
A box price alone hides the size. Of the 40 sweets priced with tax, 36 are sold by the piece. For those 36, one piece costs 70 to 456 yen, and the median is 190.3 yen. The chart shows the spread.

| Item | Value |
|---|---|
| Lowest per piece | 70 yen |
| Median per piece | 190.3 yen |
| Highest per piece | 456 yen |
Some sweets come in two sizes. Itohkyuemon’s matcha nama chocolate is 630 yen for 5 pieces and 1,393 yen for 16. Jugetsudo’s matcha financier is 1,500 yen for 5 and 3,000 yen for 10.
When you compare prices, look for 税込 (zeikomi), which means “tax included.” Shop prices for food such as sweets include 8% consumption tax. Tokyo Banana, for example, says its tax-included prices are its suggested retail price plus 8% consumption tax. Nanaya and Fukujuen print both numbers, so you can see the gap on the label.
Japan’s tax-free shopping changes on 1 November 2026; our tax-free shopping guide explains the new steps.
For the tea itself, see our report on how much matcha costs in Japan. It found a median of 125.1 yen per gram across 124 matcha at the same 15 brands.
Matcha sweets sold at Narita and Haneda airports
Two matcha sweets made with Itohkyuemon are sold at the Tokyo airports. Tokyo Banana, a Grapestone brand, makes both with the Uji tea house. The drawing below shows where each one is sold.

The first is the Itohkyuemon matcha cake. The Tokyo Banana official product page with Itohkyuemon prices it at 1,620 yen for 8 pieces and 2,376 yen for 12, with tax. Tokyo Banana adds 8% consumption tax to its suggested retail price to get these figures, and some department stores round the tax up.
The Grapestone official store finder lists the matcha cake at 13 shops. All 13 are inside Haneda Terminal 3 or Narita Airport. Only 2 of them are marked ゲート外, outside the gates, at Narita Terminal 1 and Narita Terminal 3. The other 11 are past security.
The second is the Itohkyuemon matcha chocolat sand. It costs 1,512 yen for 8 pieces and 2,268 yen for 12, with tax. The same store finder lists it at 11 shops, and every one is at Narita Airport. At Haneda, only the cake is listed.

Plan your airport time with our guides to Narita Airport and Haneda Airport. For Osaka, Fukujuen opened a shop at Kansai International Airport, according to a notice of 2 June 2026. Our Kansai Airport guide covers the trains into the city.
