teamLab Biovortex Kyoto 2026: Tickets, Hours and Access
We read the teamLab Biovortex Kyoto official page and the teamLab Biovortex Kyoto official FAQ. On 7 October 2026 we also read the price of every date and entry time on the official ticket site, 60 days ahead. The museum calls itself the largest teamLab museum in Japan.
Many people search for teamLab Borderless Kyoto. Borderless is a separate teamLab museum in Tokyo, and the one in Kyoto is teamLab Biovortex Kyoto. Our comparison of the teamLab museums in Tokyo, Kyoto, Osaka and Fukuoka sets them side by side.
Hours, closed days and time inside
teamLab Biovortex Kyoto opens from 9:00 to 21:00, and the last entry is at 19:30. The museum says these hours are subject to change. The Sketch Factory, which turns your drawings into gifts such as badges and T-shirts, runs from 11:00 to 21:00.
The next closed days are Tuesday 17 November, Thursday 19 November and Tuesday 15 December 2026. There is no closed day in October. On the official ticket calendar, 17 and 19 November show in grey, and no tickets were on sale for either date when we checked. Closed days can change, so look at the calendar again just before you book.

The photo shows the Hachijo side of Kyoto Station, the south side. The museum stands south of the station, so use the Hachijo East Gate. Our month guides to Kyoto in October, Kyoto in November and Kyoto in December list the events around the same dates.
There is no limit on how long you stay after you enter. Re-entry is not permitted, so walking out ends your visit. Eat before you go in, because the building has vending machines but no restaurant or cafe.
During busy times you may have to wait outside before entry. The museum asks you to prepare for heat or cold depending on the season. It also asks visitors not to wait, eat or sit around the building, which stands in a quiet residential area.
Two notes apply this autumn. The artwork Living Crystallized Light is unavailable for viewing until early November because of maintenance. To mark the first anniversary, Vanishing Tree and Wildflowers features Japanese fantail willow from Wednesday 7 October to Sunday 11 October.
Our price check grouped national holidays with weekends, so it helps to know the dates. The next ones are Sports Day on 12 October, Culture Day on 3 November and Labour Thanksgiving Day on 23 November.

The screenshot is the Cabinet Office Japan national holidays page, the government list of public holidays for 2026 and 2027, in Japanese. None of the museum’s three closed days falls on a holiday. Our calendar of public holidays in 2026 gives the English names.
Ticket prices by date and entry time
japan-japan.com checked every date and entry time on the official ticket site on 7 October 2026. The check covered 7 October to 5 December 2026. That is 60 days, 58 of them open, with up to 21 entry times a day, at online prices including tax.
The official page lists adults from ¥3,800. The legend on the ticket calendar shows price bands from ¥4,000–¥4,400 up to ¥4,800–¥5,200. Treat ¥3,800 as a floor; our numbers show what the site was really selling. Across these 60 days the cheapest adult ticket was ¥4,000, the dearest was ¥4,800 and the median was ¥4,800.
Adult prices move by date in steps. From 7 October to 23 November, an adult ticket costs ¥4,400 to ¥4,800, depending on the entry time. From 24 to 27 November it drops to ¥4,200 to ¥4,600. On 28 and 29 November it returns to ¥4,400 to ¥4,800.
Monday 30 November is the cheapest day in the period, at ¥4,000 to ¥4,400. From 1 to 4 December the range is ¥4,200 to ¥4,600, and 5 December goes back to ¥4,400 to ¥4,800. The chart below shows the cheapest entry time on each of those steps.

| Item | Value | Note |
|---|---|---|
| 7 Oct–23 Nov | 4400 yen | |
| 24–27 Nov | 4200 yen | |
| 28–29 Nov | 4400 yen | |
| 30 Nov | 4000 yen | Cheapest day |
| 1–4 Dec | 4200 yen | |
| 5 Dec | 4400 yen |
The entry time matters only at the very end of the day. Every adult slot from 9:00 to 18:30 averaged ¥4,766. The 19:00 entry averaged ¥4,366, the only cheaper slot. By band, the chart shows ¥4,766 for every band before 18:00 and ¥4,632 from 18:00. That dip comes from the 19:00 slot alone.

| Item | Value | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Before 11:00 | 4766 yen | |
| 11:00–14:59 | 4766 yen | |
| 15:00–17:59 | 4766 yen | |
| From 18:00 | 4632 yen | 19:00 slot averages ¥4,366 |
The day of the week barely changes the price. The adult average was ¥4,728 on 38 weekdays and ¥4,781 on 20 days of weekends and public holidays.
Nothing had sold out when we checked. Of 1,218 adult entry times in the period, 0 were sold out and 37 showed only a few tickets left. No date was fully sold out, and tickets for the next day were still on sale.
The other tickets have fixed prices. Ages 13 to 17 paid ¥2,800 and ages 4 to 12 paid ¥1,800 on all 58 open dates. Children 3 and under enter free. Visitors aged 13 to 17 must show ID at the gate. The Flexible Pass costs ¥12,000 for adults and children alike, and lets you enter at any time on the day you chose.
The disability ticket is the one place where the two official sources differ. The official page lists it at ¥1,900 for a certificate holder and up to one companion. On the ticket site, the same ticket cost ¥2,000 to ¥2,400 during our 60 days, with a median of ¥2,400. The official notes say disability discounts follow the variable price system, like adult tickets.
How to buy tickets and change dates
You can buy teamLab Biovortex Kyoto tickets on the official ticket website or on online booking sites. The official site takes credit cards (VISA, Mastercard, JCB, American Express and Diners) and PayPay. Tickets for January 2027 go on sale at 12:00 on 30 October, according to the official ticket site.
If a time has not sold out, you can still buy it online on the day. You can also buy at the venue, but a ticket bought there costs ¥200 more than the online price.

The steps above follow one booking on the official site, from choosing a time to walking in. Once you have paid, you cannot cancel. You can change the date and time up to 3 times, but only for tickets bought directly on the official ticket website. Open your QR ticket, select Modify ticket date and follow the steps. The deadline is 2 hours before your entry time. A Flexible Pass can be changed up to 2 hours before the last admission time.
Some changes are blocked. You cannot switch to a different ticket type or move to a sold-out time. You also cannot change only part of a group booking or split it across dates. If the new time costs a different amount, you pay for the new ticket and the site refunds what you paid before. Tickets bought on other sites follow that site’s own terms.
When you pick a date in mid-November, look for grey squares on the calendar. Those are the closed days, 17 and 19 November, and you cannot book them.
You do not need to print anything if you have a phone. Open the URL in your confirmation email and show the ticket screen at the entrance. Without a smartphone or tablet, use the Print your ticket button, which appears 24 hours before your date.
The table sets each ticket type’s official price beside what we found on the ticket site.

What to wear, bags and photo rules
Dress for climbing and walking. In the Athletic Area you cannot wear high heels, sandals or clogs. The museum rents sneakers, but it asks you to bring your own. Some artworks have mirrored floors, and wrap skirts are provided near them. Some works also involve stairs. Do not wear flashing shoes, light-up bracelets or glow sticks.

The checklist covers four rules to sort out before you leave your hotel. Items longer than 50 cm cannot go inside and must go to the luggage room. That includes a suitcase, so if you come straight from the airport, plan for the luggage room.
Photos, video and social media posts are allowed. You cannot use a monopod, tripod, selfie stick or other aid with a total length of 30 cm or more. Flash and drones are also banned. Filming, photography or live streaming for commercial purposes needs consent in advance.
Food rules are strict. You cannot bring food inside, and that includes candy and gum. You may drink only in the designated area. The building has vending machines, but no restaurants or cafes. There is free Wi-Fi. There is no smoking area inside, and the museum points smokers to the public smoking areas near Kyoto Station.

Kyoto Station, shown above, is the easiest place for a meal before or after your visit, since the museum has no cafe. Pregnant visitors cannot enter some areas, because some works use flashing lights, loud sounds and scents. Animals are not allowed.
Children, strollers and wheelchairs
Children 3 and under enter free, but some artworks have height and age limits. Children of elementary school age and younger must come with a responsible adult aged 18 or older. High school students may also act as the companion.
The two official sources differ on group size. The museum page says one adult for every three children, and children who enter free count. The ticket site’s product terms say one adult may accompany up to 5 children. Plan on three children per adult, the stricter of the two.
Strollers cannot go inside, so leave yours in the luggage room. You can enter in a wheelchair, but some artworks cannot be experienced in one for safety reasons. The museum limits how many wheelchairs can be inside at once, so you may be asked to wait. It does not rent wheelchairs, so bring your own.
A visitor with a disability certificate pays the disability price, and so can up to one companion. Children aged 4 to 12 always pay the child price. If the child holds a certificate, one adult with them can still buy the discounted ticket. Show the original certificate at the entrance, and enter together. Certificates from Japan and overseas are accepted, as is the Mirairo ID app.
Getting there from Kyoto Station and Kansai Airport
The address is 21-5 Higashikujo Higashi-Iwamotocho, Minami-ku, Kyoto. In Japanese it is 京都市南区東九条東岩本町21-5 (Kyoto-shi Minami-ku Higashikujo Higashi-Iwamotocho), which you can show to a taxi driver. Walk 7 minutes from the Hachijo East Gate of Kyoto Station, or 11 minutes from Shichijo Station on the Keihan Line.
The museum has no parking for cars or motorcycles. Tour buses cannot stop, wait or drop off on the streets around it. Groups use the Kyoto Station Hachijo-guchi Chartered Bus Area instead.

From Kansai Airport, the JR Kansai-Airport Express Haruka reaches Kyoto Station in about 75 minutes for ¥2,200. It is the quickest and cheapest way listed in our page on Kansai Airport to Kyoto. Our Haruka airport express guide covers its tickets and stops.

The photo shows the Haruka, which runs to Kyoto Station without a change. The Kansai Airport limousine bus also runs there without a change, in 85 to 88 minutes for ¥2,800. There are 48 buses a day from Terminal 1, between 06:45 and 23:20. For the terminals, the shops and the other trains, see our Kansai Airport guide.
With a suitcase, remember the 50 cm rule: it goes to the museum’s luggage room.
From elsewhere in Japan, our route pages for Osaka to Kyoto and Tokyo to Kyoto compare the trains and fares. All of these arrive at Kyoto Station, so the last step is the same 7-minute walk.
An IC card makes the rest of the day simpler. Kyoto City Bus and the subway accept ICOCA, Suica, PASMO, PiTaPa and other nationwide cards, as our guide to IC cards in Kyoto shows. An ICOCA card costs ¥2,000, with a ¥500 deposit included. At Kansai Airport, the ticket machines at JR Kansai-airport Station sell ICOCA, but you cannot buy it there by credit card. Our page on buying ICOCA at Kansai Airport shows where.

Toji Temple and Kyoto Station nearby
Because the museum has no restaurant, build your meals around Kyoto Station. Eat there before a morning entry, or after a late one.
To-ji Temple is the other big sight on this side of the station. The Kyoto City Official Travel Guide To-ji Temple page says it was built in 796 to protect the city under an imperial decree. In 823 it passed to Kobo Daishi, the founder of Shingon Buddhism. Its five-story pagoda is 55 meters high and has long been a city landmark. The lecture hall holds 21 mandala images, and the main hall houses statues of healing Buddhas. The address is 1 Kujo-cho, Minami-ku.

The pagoda in the photo stands over the grounds where the Kobo-san market takes place. On the 21st of each month, a large flea market fills the temple grounds, with vendors from all over Japan. Expect handicrafts, antiques, plants and food. In our price window, the market dates are 21 October and 21 November 2026.
To-ji opens early. The Kyoto City Official Travel Guide early morning temple visits article lists the grounds from 5:00 AM. The Kondo Hall and Kodo Hall open from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, with last entry at 4:30 PM. The treasure house and Kanchi-in Hall open from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM. That list dates from May 2025, so hours may have changed.
Two simple days work from these times. In the first, see To-ji at 8:00 AM, when the halls open, then walk in for the museum’s opening at 9:00. In the second, spend the day at To-ji and Kyoto Station, then take the 19:00 entry. It was the cheapest slot in our check, at an average of ¥4,366.
For buses between other sights, the Kyoto Subway & Bus 1-Day Pass covers all Kyoto City Subway lines and all Kyoto City Bus routes. Late autumn is leaf season. Kyoto’s sample maple turns red around 5 December in an average year, says our Kyoto autumn leaves page. Our guide to Kyoto’s autumn leaves and the least crowded times shows which hours to avoid.
