The JR EAST PASS costs 35,000 yen for 5 days, Ordinary Car (JR-EAST Train Reservation, stations in Japan or overseas travel agents); children pay 17,500 yen. 5 or 10 consecutive days from the day you choose. All JR East lines, including the Shinkansen.

Children aged 6 to 11 on the purchase date pay the child price; children under 6 who do not need a reserved seat need no pass.
What the pass covers
- All JR East lines, including the Shinkansen.
- JR East (including BRT), the Tokyo Monorail, Aoimori Railway, Iwate Galaxy Railway, Sendai Airport Transit, Sanriku Railway and Hokuetsu Express, and the Echigo Tokimeki Railway between Naoetsu and Arai.
- Ordinary car reserved and non-reserved seats on Shinkansen, limited express, express and local trains.
- Through limited express trains between JR and Tobu (Nikko, Kinugawa, SPACIA Kinugawa) in ordinary reserved seats, and Tobu local trains from Shimo-imaichi to Tobu-nikko and Kinugawa-onsen.
- JR buses in the pass area, except highway buses and some route buses.
Not covered
- The Tokaido Shinkansen, which another company runs.
- The Izu Kyuko Line and the Fujikyu Railway Line.
- Tobu limited express trains that start and end at Tobu stations.
- Green Car and GranClass seats cost extra.

Fares are one adult, reserved seat where trains have them, from the City to City pages (searched for 14 October 2026). A round trip is twice the one-way fare. The share compares the round trip with 35,000 yen for 5 days, Ordinary Car (JR-EAST Train Reservation, stations in Japan or overseas travel agents).

- Tokyo to Kanazawa by Kagayaki: The official area map shows the Hokuriku Shinkansen inside the pass area only from Tokyo to Joetsumyoko; the section from Joetsumyoko to Kanazawa is outside, so its fare and limited express charge are extra.
- Tokyo to Takayama by Kagayaki + Hida: The official area map shows the Hokuriku Shinkansen inside the pass area only from Tokyo to Joetsumyoko; the Shinkansen from Joetsumyoko to Toyama and the Limited Express Hida are outside, so their fares and limited express charges are extra.
- Tokyo to Toyama by Kagayaki: The official area map shows the Hokuriku Shinkansen inside the pass area only from Tokyo to Joetsumyoko; the section from Joetsumyoko to Toyama is outside, so its fare and limited express charge are extra.
- Tokyo to Sapporo by Hayabusa + Hokuto: Covers the Tohoku Shinkansen from Tokyo to Shin-Aomori; the Hokkaido Shinkansen and the JR Hokkaido limited express are not on the list of lines.
- Tokyo to Mt Fuji by Fuji Excursion: Covers the Fuji Excursion on the JR line from Shinjuku to Otsuki; the Fujikyu Railway from Otsuki to Kawaguchiko is outside the pass, so its fare and limited express charge are extra.
- Tokyo to Mt Fuji by Limited Express Azusa + Fujikyu Line: Covers the Limited Express Azusa from Shinjuku to Otsuki; the Fujikyu Line from Otsuki to Kawaguchiko is outside the pass and needs its own fare.
- Tokyo to Shirakawa-go by Kagayaki + bus: The official area map shows the Hokuriku Shinkansen inside the pass area only from Tokyo to Joetsumyoko; the Shinkansen from Joetsumyoko to Kanazawa and the bus to Shirakawa-go are outside, so you pay for them separately.
- Tokyo to Shirakawa-go by Hakutaka + highway bus: The official area map shows the Hokuriku Shinkansen inside the pass area only from Tokyo to Joetsumyoko; the Shinkansen from Joetsumyoko to Shin-Takaoka and the highway bus to Shirakawa-go are outside, so you pay for them separately.
- Tokyo to Hakodate by Hayabusa + Hakodate Liner: Covers the Tohoku Shinkansen from Tokyo to Shin-Aomori; the Hokkaido Shinkansen and the JR Hokkaido Hakodate Liner are not on the list of lines.
- Tokyo to Izu by Odoriko to Shimoda: Covers the Odoriko from Tokyo to Ito; the Izu Kyuko Line from Ito to Izukyu-Shimoda is outside the pass, so its fare and limited express charge are extra.
- Tokyo to Izu by Shinkansen + Ito Line: Covers only the JR Ito Line from Atami to Ito; the Tokaido Shinkansen from Tokyo to Atami needs a separate ticket.
- Tokyo to Enoshima by JR Tokaido Line + Enoden: Covers the JR Tokaido Line from Tokyo to Fujisawa; the Enoden is not on the list of lines, so its fare is extra.
Where to buy it
- Online on JR-EAST Train Reservation, then pick the pass up after you arrive in Japan.
- At JR EAST Travel Service Centers in the pass area, some stations, and partner travel agencies outside Japan.
- Pick up or buy it at a reserved seat ticket machine with a passport reader, using a passport with an IC chip.
- From a travel agency outside Japan as a voucher (e-ticket), exchanged in Japan with your passport.
- Who can buy it
- Foreign nationals with a non-Japanese passport; you do not need Temporary Visitor status for this pass.
Seats and using the pass
- Seats
- Reserved seats in ordinary cars are included; the Hayabusa, Komachi, Hayate, Tsubasa, Nikko, Kinugawa and SPACIA Kinugawa are all-reserved, so get a seat ticket before boarding.
- Use the automatic ticket gates with the pass; on non-JR East lines, use the staffed gates.
- Keep your passport with you while using the pass and show it if staff ask.
- If you bought it on JR-EAST Train Reservation, you can cancel free of charge until 11:50 p.m. (JST) the day before the start date.
Refunds
An unused pass can be refunded within its validity at the place of purchase, minus a 10% fee; no refund once you start using it.
Good to know
- It replaced the JR EAST PASS (Tohoku area) and the JR EAST PASS (Nagano, Niigata area), whose sales ended on March 13, 2026.
- You can use only one JR EAST PASS at a time and cannot buy the same pass for overlapping dates.
- There is no youth or student price.
- Pass holders get 10% off the rental car fee at JR Rent-A-Car with a promo code, at select locations.
- Gala Yuzawa Station is open only in winter and spring.
