7-Eleven Japan Food: What 86 People in Japan Recommend
The survey ran online, and every respondent lives in Japan. They are not tourists. The shares show what they would recommend to a foreign friend, not what sells best.
Prices are before tax and come from Seven-Eleven Japan’s official product lists. Where prices differ by region, we use the Kanto list. The top 10 means the 10 most-recommended items that match one product in our database.
For something hot from the counter, nikuman drew 27 of 86 votes. For a rice ball, salmon onigiri drew 21 of 86. For a drink, Seven Cafe coffee or cafe latte drew 22 of 86.
The 7-Eleven foods people in Japan recommend
We asked which 7-Eleven items people would recommend to a foreign friend. All 86 could pick as many as they liked, so the shares add up to more than 100%.
Almost everyone had an answer. 89.5% (77 of 86) named at least one item. Only 5.8% (5 of 86) were not sure, and 4.7% (4 of 86) said there was nothing they would recommend.
The table below lists the most recommended items with the price before tax. The prices come from our 7-Eleven Japan food database, which records Seven-Eleven Japan’s official product list.

| Nikuman and other steamed buns | 31.4% (27 of 86) | 156 yen |
| Nana Chiki | 30.2% (26 of 86) | 232 yen |

Some items have no single price. Seven Cafe coffee or cafe latte covers four drinks from 130 to 250 yen. Oden covers four items from 121 to 195 yen. The hamburg steak, the smoothie and the Gold bread are not in our database as one item, so the table shows a dash.
Cheap items dominate. Of the 16 recommended items that match one product in our database, 9 cost under ¥200 before tax. The most recommended of those is nikuman at 156 yen. The cheapest is Gumi Maru Shine Muscat gummies at 100 yen, picked by 1 person.
Prices also change by region. The official steamed bun list includes a pork bun at 204 yen that is sold only in Kinki, the Kansai region. Onigiri and sandwiches have separate lists by region, and this article uses the Kanto list.

A typical visit is small. Among the 84 respondents who go to 7-Eleven, 67.9% (57 of 84) usually spend under ¥800. The largest group, 41.7% (35 of 84), spends ¥500 to ¥799.
If they could pick only one
We then asked the same 86 people to name the one item they would recommend most. THE Egg Sandwich came first with 10.5% (9 of 86).
Behind it, four items tied at 8.1% (7 of 86): tuna mayonnaise onigiri, Agedori, Nana Chiki and nikuman. Another 7 people chose Not sure. Seven Cafe coffee or cafe latte followed with 7.0% (6 of 86).
Salmon onigiri and Kin no Hamburg, the Seven Premium Gold hamburg steak, each had 5.8% (5 of 86). Oden had 4.7% (4 of 86), and 3 people said there was nothing they would recommend.

Which chain is best for what
We asked two questions about the chains. The answers are the views of 86 people who joined an open online call, not of everyone in Japan.
| Answer | Tastiest onigiri and bento | Recommend to a friend |
|---|---|---|
| 7-Eleven | 58.1% (50 of 86) | 40.7% (35 of 86) |
| FamilyMart | 8.1% (7 of 86) | 5.8% (5 of 86) |
| Lawson | 5.8% (5 of 86) | 7.0% (6 of 86) |
| Ministop | 0.0% (0 of 86) | 4.7% (4 of 86) |
| Another chain | 7.0% (6 of 86) | 5.8% (5 of 86) |
| They’re all about the same | 17.4% (15 of 86) | 30.2% (26 of 86) |

How we asked
japan-japan.com ran an online survey of people living in Japan; the survey article has every result and the full questionnaire. 122 answers came in between 13:53 on 18 October and 08:02 on 21 October 2026, Japan time.
We removed 36: 6 whose written answers looked machine-written, 1 that failed the attention check and 29 that clearly contradicted themselves. That left 86 valid answers. Every valid respondent passed the attention check, and we kept a few answers with smaller contradictions.
The questionnaire had 87 questions: 82 multiple-choice, including one uncounted attention check, and 5 required free-text questions. Four questions named prices, all Seven-Eleven Japan list prices checked on 17 October 2026.
Follow-up questions count only the people they applied to, such as the 84 who go to 7-Eleven. We translated the free-text answers from Japanese.
The survey has limits. Respondents answered an open online call, so the results do not represent everyone in Japan. Most were women (71 of 86). People in their 30s made up 31.4% (27 of 86), their 40s 25.6% (22 of 86) and their 20s 22.1% (19 of 86).
Respondents live in Japan and are not visitors. How a price feels is their opinion, not a price comparison.
