What the pass covers

  • Buses in northern Kyushu and around Shimonoseki.
  • Expressway buses, local buses and some ferries.
  • The Kyushu Odan Bus; reserve, then complete the procedure at a ticket counter before riding.

Not covered

  • Miyazaki and Kagoshima; you pay the normal one-way fare there.
  • The Hitoyoshi and Yatsushiro stops on the Fukuoka–Miyazaki and Kumamoto–Kagoshima expressway buses, Hitoyoshi on Kumamoto–Miyazaki and Yamato-cho on Fukuoka–Nobeoka, although they are in Kumamoto Prefecture.
  • Expressway buses between Fukuoka and Nagato or Hagi; to reach Nagato, take the Sanden Kotsu local bus from Shimonoseki.

Where to buy it

  • Digital tickets on your smartphone; pay by credit card, Alipay or WeChat Pay.
  • Paper tickets at bus company counters in Kyushu and Shimonoseki, or at designated travel agencies.
  • The Northern Kyushu 3-day paper ticket is not sold at counters in Kagoshima and Miyazaki.

Seats and using the pass

Seats
Some expressway buses need a reservation; get a seat reservation ticket at the counter and show it with your pass when boarding.
  • Show the pass to the driver when you get off; on buses that need a reservation, show it when you get on.
  • Take a numbered ticket when you board a bus that has a ticket dispenser.
  • A pass day runs from 3 am to 2:59 am the next day.

Refunds

Unused digital passes bought on the SUNQ Pass website can be refunded within three months of purchase, and paper passes up to the day before the first day. A 110 yen fee applies.

Good to know

  • The Fukuoka–Nagato Yumoto Onsen expressway bus has not been covered since July 1, 2025.
  • There are no refunds or extensions if your route is suspended by bad weather.
  • Lost passes are not reissued.
  • Pass holders get special offers at partner sights, shops, hotels and restaurants.
