Japan digital nomad visa: eligible countries, income and insurance requirements

Japan's digital nomad status lets remote workers stay for up to 6 months, with no extension. Nationals of 51 countries and regions can apply. You need an annual income of JPY 10 million or more and insurance that covers JPY 10 million or more in medical costs. A spouse and children can come too.

  • Visa application form with a photo
  • Passport
  • Certificate of Eligibility. With it, the three documents below can be left out.
  • A document explaining your planned activities and length of stay
  • Proof of an annual income of JPY 10 million or more, such as a tax payment certificate, income certificate or contract
  • Proof of insurance against death, injury or illness in Japan, with JPY 10 million or more for medical treatment

Japan's pre-entry tuberculosis screening also applies to digital nomad applicants who are nationals of the Philippines, Viet Nam, Indonesia, Nepal, Myanmar or China and live there.
