| Oeshiki at Ikegami Honmonji池上本門寺 お会式 | 11 to 13 October in 2026, centred on the memorial day of Nichiren on 13 October | Ikegami Honmonji and the streets of Ikegami, Tokyo. The lantern procession runs about 2 km from the Ikegami Tokuji Kaikan to the temple. A memorial service for Nichiren over three days. On the evening of 12 October (about 18:00 to 23:00), more than a hundred groups and about 3,000 people carry paper-flower lantern floats (mando) through the town. A bell is rung at the moment of Nichiren's death during the service from 7:00 on 13 October. Roads around the temple and Ikegami Station are restricted on all three days (from 10:00 to about 22:00 on the 11th and 13th, and from 10:00 until the procession ends on the 12th). | Oeshiki at Zoshigaya Kishimojin雑司ヶ谷鬼子母神御会式 | Every year from 16 to 18 October | Zoshigaya Kishimojin, Toshima, Tokyo. On the 17th the procession leaves Seido Kishimojin in Bunkyo at 19:30; on the 18th it leaves the front of the Seibu department store at Ikebukuro Station east exit at 19:00. Paper-flower lantern floats (mando) 3 to 4 m high are carried to Kishimojin while fan drums are beaten. On 16 October local mando groups visit the shrine; the processions on 17 and 18 October walk to Kishimojin and arrive around 20:00 and 19:30. The city says the event is planned and run by local neighbourhood associations, Homyoji temple and the Oeshiki federation. Official page |
