WEST QR Kansai Area Pass: price, coverage and is it worth it

Price

Valid on consecutive days, from 4:00 on the first day to 24:00 on the last day (Japan time).

Children aged 6 to 11 pay the child price.

What the pass covers

• Non-reserved seats on the Limited Express Haruka and on ordinary trains, including Special Rapid and Rapid trains, inside the pass area.
• Reserved seats on the Limited Express Haruka twice.

Not covered

• The Shinkansen and limited express trains other than the Haruka.
• Green Car seats need a Green Car ticket and a separate limited express ticket.
• Paid seats such as the A-Seat cost extra.

Does the WEST QR Kansai Area Pass pay off?

Add the journeys you plan to see whether the pass pays off. Below the tool are the normal one-way and round-trip fares for every journey in our City to City data that this pass covers, from the same JR and railway searches.

Fares are one adult, reserved seat where trains have them, from the City to City pages (searched for 14 October 2026). A round trip is twice the one-way fare. The share compares the round trip with 2,700 yen for 1 day (overseas online travel agent [WEST QR]).

Where to buy it

• Travel agencies outside Japan sell a WEST QR ticket voucher.
• WEST QR tickets are sold on the websites of major online travel agents.
• It is not sold by travel agencies in Japan or on JR-WEST ONLINE TRAIN RESERVATION.

Who can buy it

Only for travelers with a passport issued by a foreign government who enter Japan as a Temporary Visitor; Japanese nationals cannot use it, even with permanent residency abroad.

Seats and using the pass

Seats

Up to two Haruka reserved seats, booked on the WEST QR website from 30 days before the train; ticket machines and station counters cannot book them.

• Register the voucher on the WEST QR website, then press Use ticket after 4:00 on your first day to show the QR code.
• Scan the QR code at the ticket gate; no paper ticket is needed.
• You need a smartphone with internet access; without one, a travel companion's phone can show your ticket.

Refunds

Before you press Use ticket, ask the travel agency where you bought it about a refund (its fee may apply); there is no refund after that.

Good to know

• The regular Kansai Area Pass on the JR-WEST RAIL PASS list is no longer sold; its sales ended at the end of September.
• The one-, two- and four-day versions have been sold since December 19, 2025.
• Each pass holder can bring up to two children aged 1 to 5 for free.
• If the dedicated Haruka car is full, you can use a non-reserved seat instead.
