  • Large coffee: 204 yen hot and 232 yen iced, before tax.

Seven Cafe is the coffee counter inside 7-Eleven stores in Japan. The Seven-Eleven Japan Seven Cafe product page lists 8 drinks: hot coffee, iced coffee, hot cafe latte and iced cafe latte. Each comes in a regular (R) cup and a large (L) cup. We read the page on 17 October 2026, and every price in this article comes from it.

Japanese price lists often show two numbers. The first is the price before tax, and the second is the price with tax. On the Seven Cafe page, the price with tax uses the reduced 8% consumption tax rate. That is why a 130 yen coffee also appears as 140.40 yen.

The illustration above shows the headline number: 130 yen before tax for a regular hot or iced coffee, or 140.40 yen with 8% tax. Those two regular coffees share the lowest price on the Seven Cafe menu. Everything else on the list costs 204 yen or more before tax.

The page also carries a warning. Seven-Eleven Japan says the size, price and release date of a product can differ by region. Some stores may not stock an item at all. For the 8 Seven Cafe drinks, the page lists the sales area as all of Japan.

7-Eleven coffee prices by size

The table below lists all 8 Seven Cafe drinks with the regular and large price before tax. The cheapest cup is 130 yen. The most expensive is the large iced cafe latte at 315 yen.

Drink Regular (R) Large (L)
Hot coffee 130 yen 204 yen
Iced coffee 130 yen 232 yen
Hot cafe latte 204 yen 260 yen
Iced cafe latte 250 yen 315 yen
Seven Cafe prices by size (before tax) — All 8 Seven Cafe drinks are sold in all of Japan. Prices before tax, in yen.

A few patterns stand out. A regular hot coffee and a regular iced coffee cost the same 130 yen. The large sizes split: 204 yen for hot and 232 yen for iced. The large hot coffee and the regular hot cafe latte share one price, 204 yen. For the same money, you choose between a bigger black coffee and a smaller cup with milk.

Here are the same drinks with the 8% tax included, exactly as the official list prints them.

Drink Regular (R) with 8% tax Large (L) with 8% tax
Hot coffee 140.40 yen 220.32 yen
Iced coffee 140.40 yen 250.56 yen
Hot cafe latte 220.32 yen 280.80 yen
Iced cafe latte 270 yen 340.20 yen

The decimals look odd, but you will not pay them. The Seven Cafe page explains how the register works. It adds tax to the total of the before-tax prices, then drops any fraction below 1 yen. You pay in whole yen.

The photo shows a 7-Eleven store front in Japan. You buy Seven Cafe drinks at the register. The official list uses Japanese names. The regular hot coffee appears as セブンカフェ ホットコーヒーR (Seven Cafe hotto kohi R). The lattes use the short brand name 7カフェ, as in 7カフェ ホットカフェラテR. The letters R and L mark the regular and large cup.

The bar chart puts the 8 before-tax prices side by side. The two regular coffees sit at the bottom at 130 yen. The large iced cafe latte sits at the top at 315 yen.

Hot cafe latte R 204 yen

Iced cafe latte R 250 yen

For comparison, our 7-Eleven Japan food database found a median price of 204 yen before tax across 119 items with an official price. A regular hot cafe latte costs exactly that median. A regular coffee costs less than most of the food on the shelves.

How much more is a large?

Moving from R to L adds 74 yen for hot coffee and 102 yen for iced coffee, before tax. For the lattes, the step is 56 yen hot and 65 yen iced. These are our counts from the official list.

Extra cost from regular to large (yen)
Before tax. Iced coffee has the biggest step from R to L.
Item Value
Hot coffee 74 yen
Iced coffee 102 yen
Hot cafe latte 56 yen
Iced cafe latte 65 yen

The chart shows that iced coffee has the biggest jump, at 102 yen. The hot cafe latte has the smallest, at 56 yen. If you drink lattes, the large size costs relatively little extra. If you drink iced black coffee, the large is the step that adds the most yen.

Price is only part of the choice. Here is how the four pairs compare:

  • Hot coffee: 130 yen for R, 204 yen for L. The large is the same price as a regular hot cafe latte.
  • Iced coffee: 130 yen for R, 232 yen for L. A large iced coffee still costs less than a regular iced cafe latte at 250 yen.
  • Hot cafe latte: 204 yen for R, 260 yen for L. The large hot latte costs less than the large iced latte at 315 yen.
  • Iced cafe latte: 250 yen for R, 315 yen for L. This is the most expensive pair on the menu.

At Seven Cafe, iced coffee has the biggest price step from R to L. Still, the large iced coffee at 232 yen is the cheapest big cold drink without milk on this menu.

Size changes the calories too. The official list gives 6 kcal for a regular hot coffee and 10 kcal for a large. Iced coffee goes from 7 kcal to 11 kcal. The lattes climb faster. The hot cafe latte goes from 87 kcal to 133 kcal, and the iced cafe latte from 76 kcal to 117 kcal.

How to buy Seven Cafe coffee

Seven Cafe is a buy-then-make drink. The Seven-Eleven Japan English How-To Guide videos include one called How to Buy & Make SEVEN CAFÉ. The title tells you the order: you buy the cup, and then you make the drink yourself.

The same page had four videos when we checked on 18 October 2026:

  • Smoothie: how to buy and make a smoothie.
  • Hot snacks: how to buy hot snacks.
  • Seven Cafe: how to buy and make Seven Cafe coffee.
  • Oden: how to buy oden.

The Seven-Eleven Japan English FAQ sends visitors to these videos for hot snacks, Seven Cafe coffee, smoothies and oden. Watch the Seven Cafe video before your first cup. It takes the guesswork out of the machine. The photo below, taken at a 7-Eleven in Shimonoseki in 2019, shows the machines with buttons for regular (R) and large (L) cups.

You step up to it after you pay at the register.

At the register, a few words of Japanese help. Point at what you want and say:

  • これください (kore kudasai): this one, please.
  • カードで (kado de): by card.
  • 現金で (genkin de): in cash.

For the cards and apps the register takes, see our 7-Eleven Japan payments database.

Plastic bags cost a small fee, and the price depends on the size. Ask the staff if you need one. If you buy a hot coffee with cold food, the staff may ask about packing them in one bag.

Eat-in tax: 8% or 10%

Take your Seven Cafe coffee out of the store and the 8% rate on the price list applies. Drink it in a store’s eat-in area and the tax rate becomes 10%.

The Seven-Eleven Japan English FAQ states the rule. Some 7-Eleven stores in Japan have an eat-in area where you can sit with what you bought. If you buy reduced-tax items in the store and eat or drink them in that area, the 10% rate applies.

Seven Cafe tax: take out or eat in. Can I drink my coffee here? Take out: 8% tax. Carry the cup out of the store.
Seven Cafe tax: take out or eat in

The illustration shows the line between the two rates. On the left, a visitor carries the cup out of the store and pays 8%. On the right, a visitor sits down at a counter inside and pays 10%. The drink and the cup size stay the same. Only the place where you drink it changes the rate.

Japan’s consumption tax has a standard 10% rate and a reduced 8% rate for food and drink. Our tax-free page on how much tax comes back explains the two rates in more detail. Our guide to Japanese convenience store food uses the same split for onigiri, sandwiches and other take-away food.

Not every store has seats. When one does, the FAQ asks for a few things:

  • Short stays: avoid sitting for a long time.
  • Quiet voices: avoid loud conversations.
  • Trash: sort and throw away your trash by the store’s rules.

Decide where you will drink before you pay. If you want the price on the list, plan to walk out with your cup.

Milk, allergens and calories

The plain hot and iced coffees list no allergens. The hot and iced cafe lattes list milk and nothing else. The Seven Cafe page checks each drink against 28 allergens: 8 required items and 20 recommended items.

Which Seven Cafe drink and tax rate fit you. If you…. Then. No milk wanted. Hot or iced coffee. No allergens listed.
Which Seven Cafe drink and tax rate fit you

The lookup chart above sorts the choice by situation. If you want no milk, order hot or iced coffee. If milk is fine, the cafe latte works, and milk is its only listed allergen. The last two rows repeat the tax rule: 8% to take out and 10% in the eat-in area.

Calories and other values per item, from the same official list:

Drink Regular (R) Large (L)
Hot coffee 6 kcal 10 kcal
Iced coffee 7 kcal 11 kcal
Hot cafe latte 87 kcal 133 kcal
Iced cafe latte 76 kcal 117 kcal

The lattes carry more protein and fat because of the milk. A regular hot cafe latte lists 4.6 g of protein and 4.5 g of fat. A large hot cafe latte lists 6.9 g of protein and 6.8 g of fat. A regular hot coffee lists 0.4 g of protein and 0.01 g of salt equivalent.

The Japanese word for milk on allergen labels is 乳 (nyu).

An allergen list does not tell you whether a drink is halal or vegan. It does not cover alcohol, other animal ingredients or how the drink is prepared. Read the full ingredient list on the package (原材料名, genzairyo-mei) or ask staff. Seven-Eleven Japan also notes that nutrition values can differ by product, and asks you to check the label.

Our database checked the allergen pages for the hot counter, oden, steamed buns and Seven Cafe. There, 22 of 108 items list pork, 14 list beef and 6 list gelatin. None of the 8 Seven Cafe drinks lists pork. Our 7-Eleven food database marks each item by name.
