What you will see at GREEN×EXPO 2027

GREEN×EXPO 2027 is an A1 expo, the highest class of international horticultural expo. AIPH approved it and BIE recognised it. The theme is Scenery of the Future for Happiness. More than 70 countries and international organisations, every prefecture in Japan and more than 500 companies and organisations have signed up.

Flower and greenery exhibits

The GREEN×EXPO 2027 official flower and greenery exhibits page counted 388 exhibitors as of 9 October 2026. The list includes 177 outdoor exhibitors, 21 indoor exhibitors for the whole expo and 225 short-term indoor exhibitors, with some in more than one group. The short-term indoor exhibitors change every 9 days.

Two pavilions and a river valley

The Theme Pavilion, with design supervised by architect Kengo Kuma, uses projection mapping to show how plants connect. Plan about 30 minutes inside. The Horticultural Pavilion recreates an Edo-period nursery garden, called a hanayashiki, and takes about 45 minutes. Each one is about 15 minutes’ walk from the gate, according to the GREEN×EXPO 2027 official exhibits FAQ (Japanese).

Near the gate, the Aizawa River outdoor exhibit changes with the season. Wheat ripens in May, sunflowers bloom in August and September, and rice grows in the fields late in the expo. The flower and greenery exhibits, both pavilions and the Japan Pavilion and Garden cost nothing beyond the admission ticket. Shops cost extra.

Paying from overseas

The official site takes AMEX, Diners Club, JCB, MasterCard and Visa, as one-time payments only. If a payment fails, the GREEN×EXPO 2027 official ticket FAQ lists a card without 3D Secure set up as the first likely reason, so check with your card issuer. Convenience store payment works only inside Japan.

The official site sells e-tickets only, up to 14 per transaction. People under 16 need a parent or guardian to buy for them. Refunds are not given as a rule, and you cannot switch ticket types.

You can transfer an unused ticket to family or friends from My Tickets, and the link stays valid for 24 hours. The Ticket Sales Management Centre answers on +81 (0)570-01-8789, weekdays 10:00–17:00.

Chart matching Green Expo 2027 plans to tickets: day ticket, Night Ticket, Summer Pass from 3 visits, Season Pass from 6
Which Green Expo 2027 ticket pays off

japan-japan.com did the sums from the official adult prices, and the illustration above matches each plan to a ticket. The advance One-Day Ticket saves 600 yen against the regular price. A Season Pass at JPY 28,000 beats advance day tickets from the 6th visit. Five visits cost JPY 24,500 and six cost JPY 29,400. A Summer Pass at JPY 12,000 wins from the 3rd visit, since two visits cost JPY 9,800 and three cost JPY 14,700.

The Night Ticket costs JPY 3,500 for adults, 2,000 yen less than a regular One-Day Ticket. It gives up to 4 hours 30 minutes, from 17:00 to closing at 21:30. Both passes need a registered face photo, which staff check at the gate. Once you register the photo, you cannot transfer the pass.

The three bookings: entry time, shuttle bus, exhibits

A ticket alone does not get you in. You need up to three bookings, made on two different websites. Entry bookings opened on 18 September 2026, first come, first served, and cover every day of the expo.

Four steps to book Green Expo 2027 from abroad. Buy on the ticket site. Make an account, pay by 3D Secure card.
Four steps to book Green Expo 2027 from abroad

The illustration shows the order that works from abroad: ticket, entry time, shuttle bus, then saved QR codes.

1. Entry time on the ticket site

Choose an entry slot at 9:30, 10:30, 11:30, 12:30, 13:30 or 14:30. A 17:00 slot also takes Night Tickets. Each slot has a cap based on expected crowds. You can enter any time that day after your booked time. Except for the Season Pass and Summer Pass, you can change your booking up to three times. Your entry QR code appears only after you book.

2. Shuttle bus on a separate site

The shuttle bus has its own booking site at cs.shuttle-bus.expo2027yokohama.or.jp, with its own email and password. The GREEN×EXPO 2027 official transport FAQ (Japanese) sets the rules. You book the outbound and return trips separately, one of each per day, for up to 40 people per booking. Pay by credit card; if seats remain, you can book until 5 minutes before the meeting time.

Cancel free until 17:00 the day before. From then until 5 minutes before the meeting time, the fee is 50% of the fare. Slots to the site run every 30 minutes from 8:30 to 13:00, then hourly. Slots back run hourly from 12:00 to 15:00, then every 30 minutes until 21:30. Booking help is on 045-900-6429, weekdays 10:00 to 17:00, in Japanese.

3. Viewing reservations for some exhibits

Some exhibits will take same-day viewing reservations. Each ticket gets one exhibit, once a day. Slots open in three rounds through the day, and you can reserve before you enter. Cancel up to 15 minutes before your slot.

Carry both QR codes, entry and shuttle, as screenshots or printouts. Mobile signal at the venue may be poor.

Getting to Green Expo 2027: four shuttle stations

The nearest station is Seya on the Sotetsu Main Line. The English Access page lists the shuttle buses with no details. The four stations, the fares and the booking rules appear only on the GREEN×EXPO 2027 official access page (Japanese).

Chart of Green Expo 2027 shuttle stations: Seya from Yokohama or Haneda, Tokaichiba from Shin-Yokohama, Grandberry Park
Which shuttle station to use

The illustration matches your starting point to a shuttle station. Seya and Mitsukyo are on the Sotetsu Main Line with no change from Yokohama Station.

Shuttle station Rail line Bus to the site Peak frequency
Seya Sotetsu Main Line About 10 min (about 2 km) Every 1.5–3 min
Mitsukyo Sotetsu Main Line About 15 min (about 4 km) Every 2–6 min
Minami-machida Grandberry Park Tokyu Den-en-toshi Line About 20 min (about 4 km) Every 1–3 min
Tokaichiba JR Yokohama Line About 25 min (about 6 km) Every 1–3 min

Buses board at each station’s North Exit. Signs at the stops will be in Japanese and English, and the Japanese reads シャトルバス乗り場 (shatoru basu noriba, shuttle bus stop). The fare is 200 yen one way for adults and 100 yen for children aged 1 to under 12. Buses run 8:30 to 22:30, and traffic can make them late.

From the airports, Tokyo, Osaka and Kyoto

First get to Yokohama. Our Haneda Airport to Yokohama page lists the Keikyu Line at about 23 minutes and 370 yen to Yokohama Station. On the Narita Airport to Yokohama route, the Airport Limousine bus takes 85–100 minutes for 4,000 yen, and the Narita Express costs 4,480 yen. From Tokyo Station, the JR Tokaido Line takes 25 minutes for 530 yen, as our Tokyo to Yokohama page shows.

The fastest Osaka to Yokohama trip is the Nozomi, 2 hours 3 minutes from Shin-Osaka to Shin-Yokohama for 14,390 yen with a reserved seat. The Kyoto to Yokohama Nozomi takes 1 hour 49 minutes for 13,500 yen. Shin-Yokohama is on the JR Yokohama Line, so Tokaichiba is the easy shuttle station from there.

Exterior of Seya Station on the Sotetsu Main Line, with a paved plaza, flower beds and bicycles out front

The photo shows Seya Station on the Sotetsu Main Line, the closest stop to the site. From Yokohama Station, Sotetsu charges 272 yen to Seya by IC card and 241 yen to Mitsukyo. Add the 200 yen shuttle and one adult pays 472 yen from Yokohama Station to the site, or 944 yen there and back. A Suica or PASMO card covers the train, and our IC cards guide explains which one to buy.

Walking, taxis, cars and direct buses

You can also walk from Seya Station. The recommended route along Ring Road 4 is about 2 km and takes 25–30 minutes. For the way back, taxis queue at a stand near the main gate, and there is no drop-off area for private cars. Direct buses are planned from Yokohama Station, Shin-Yokohama Station, the Minato Mirai and Kannai area, and Haneda Airport. As of 14 October 2026, their times and fares were still being arranged. Car parks need booking and cost 5,000 yen on weekdays and 7,000 yen on weekends and holidays.

Luggage, payment and language on the day

Leave your suitcase somewhere else. Bags go through an X-ray at the gate, and anything larger than 600 mm wide, 400 mm high and 900 mm deep cannot come in. Suitcases on wheels and carts are banned whatever their size. So are wheeled backpacks, even ones with removable wheels.

What gets through the expo gate. Can I bring my suitcase inside? Allowed. Bags within 600 x 400 x 900 mm.
What gets through the expo gate

The illustration sorts what passes the gate from what does not. The organiser’s visitor rules ban all alcohol, opened or not, and drinks in bottles and cans. Plastic bottles and your own water bottle are fine. Selfie sticks are banned except palm-sized ones, and so are tripods, drones, and animals and plants other than assistance dogs.

Where to leave a suitcase

The GREEN×EXPO 2027 official venue rules FAQ (Japanese) asks you not to bring large luggage on the shuttle bus. Coin lockers at Haneda Airport start from 400 yen a day in 5 sizes. Those at Narita Airport also start from 400 yen, in 3 sizes. Sotetsu’s pages for Seya and Mitsukyo stations also list coin lockers, and our guide to coin lockers in Japan covers sizes. You can also send bags ahead with luggage forwarding in Japan.

Paying and getting help

Food and shops inside the site will be cashless in principle, and which payments work is still being decided. A convenience store is planned. Both pavilions will have signs in Japanese and English, plus audio guides in Japanese, English, Chinese and Korean. Multilingual help across the rest of the site is still being planned. Shuttle buses are mostly low-floor and take wheelchairs, so choose the number of wheelchair users when you book.

When to go to Green Expo 2027: busy days, crowds and weather

Go on a weekday outside Golden Week if you can. The official transport plan, published in July 2026, sorts the 192 days into four types and estimates visitors for each.

Expected visitors a day by day type (transport plan, July 2026)
The 19 busiest days expect about 2.1 times the visitors of a type A weekday.
Item Value Note
A: weekdays to summer 50,000 visitors a day 80 days
B: Golden Week and late-summer weekdays 56,000 visitors a day 47 days
C: other weekends and holidays 79,000 visitors a day 46 days
D: busiest days 105,000 visitors a day 19 days

The chart shows the gap. Type A weekdays, 80 days up to the summer holidays, expect about 50,000 visitors a day. Type B, weekdays in Golden Week and from 20 July, covers 47 days at about 56,000. Type C, weekends and holidays outside the busy period, covers 46 days at about 79,000. Type D, the 19 busiest days, expects about 105,000, or 2.1 times a type A weekday.

Of the 192 days, 127 are weekdays. The 19 busy days in 2027 start with 29 April and 2, 3, 23, 29 and 30 May. Then come 6 and 13 June, 14 and 15 August, and 4, 11, 12, 18, 19, 20, 23, 25 and 26 September. Golden Week 2027 starts with Showa Day on Thursday 29 April, then gives 5 days off from 1 to 5 May. Our list of public holidays in 2027 shows the other long weekends.

Within a day, arrivals are expected to peak in the morning and departures to build from about the evening. By 18 September 2026, 2,609,562 tickets had been sold, so book your entry slot and shuttle as soon as your dates are fixed.

What 87 people in Japan plan: when, how and where after

Kyoudokoiku (kyoudokoiku.com) surveyed 87 people living in Japan online on 10–13 October 2026. Kyoudokoiku is a Japanese travel site from the same team as japan-japan.com. The full Japanese results are in the Kyoudokoiku survey on GREEN×EXPO 2027 crowds and tickets.

When they plan to go

A woman in her 30s in Chubu and Hokuriku plans to go between March and May. She wrote: “At that time of year, walking 2 km each way from the station won’t bother me”. A man in his 30s from Tokyo’s 23 wards wrote: “A system that lets you book everything at once would help”.

This was an open online call, so the results do not represent everyone in Japan.
