manaca is an IC card that holds electronic money, which you can use to pay for railway tickets and bus fares. A manaca costs 2,000 yen for both adults and children. The price includes a 500 yen deposit, so you can use 1,500 yen.

Where to buy manaca

Operators' manaca counters during business hours
manaca cards are sold and refunded at the counters of the operators during business hours. For Nagoya Railroad these are stations with ticket staff (not Akaike or Gamagōri), the Meitetsu Information Center and some Meitetsu World Travel branches. Ask each operator for its hours.
Counters; machines for non-registered only
A non-registered manaca is sold at manaca counters and at manaca ticket machines. A registered manaca is sold only at the counters. Some ticket machines cannot sell a new manaca.
Nagoya Railroad
Nagoya Railroad sells manaca at stations with ticket staff (not Akaike or Gamagōri), the Meitetsu Nagoya Station service center and some Meitetsu World Travel branches. The counters work only in business hours.

Price

The 500 yen deposit is returned when you hand the manaca back, for example at a refund. It cannot be used to pay fares or as electronic money.

You can top up a manaca in units of 1,000 yen, up to 20,000 yen.

Where you can use manaca

Main area
manaca can be used on Meitetsu trains and buses, the Toyohashi Railway, Nagoya city subways and buses, the Aonami Line and the Yutorito Line.

manaca can be used on the trains and buses of the Nagoya City Transportation Bureau, Nagoya Railroad, Aonami Line, Meitetsu Bus, Yutorito Line, Toyohashi Railroad and Aichi Rapid Transit (Linimo).
Other areas
In addition to the TOICA areas of JR Central, manaca cards can be used in other transportation IC card areas nationwide for trains and buses and as electronic money. Other companies' IC cards can be used in the manaca area.
Other areas
A manaca can be used on trains and buses in the Kitaca, PASMO, Suica, TOICA, PiTaPa, ICOCA, Hayakaken, nimoca and SUGOCA areas.
Watch out
Each IC card can be used only for a trip that stays inside one area, with a few exceptions.
Shops
A manaca can be used at member shops of Kitaca, PASMO, Suica, TOICA, ICOCA, Hayakaken, nimoca and SUGOCA, but not at PiTaPa shops.
Trains and buses
On a prepaid bus, touch the reader when you board. On a postpaid bus, touch it when you board and when you get off.

Refunds, expiry and lost cards

Refund
At a manaca counter, a manaca is refunded as the balance minus a 220 yen card refund fee, plus the 500 yen deposit. That fee is for Nagoya Railroad, Meitetsu Bus and Toyohashi Railroad; other operators may charge a different amount.
If you lose it
A non-registered manaca can be used by anyone but cannot be reissued if lost. A registered manaca can be reissued if you register your name, gender, date of birth and phone number.
Registered card
A registered manaca can only be used by the person the card is registered to.
Expiry
The expiry date given for the child manaca is March 31 of the fiscal year in which the named person turns 12. After that it can be changed to an adult manaca.

No unregistered child card; ID needed
There is no unregistered version of the child manaca. To buy one you register your name, date of birth, gender and phone number and show the child's official ID, such as a health insurance card.
