Can I Use UnionPay at 7-Eleven Japan? Credit Only, No Debit

Only UnionPay credit cards work at the 7-Eleven till. UnionPay debit cards and UnionPay tap to pay are not accepted.

Seven Bank ATMs in many stores list cards with the UnionPay mark for cash, except for 20 minutes around midnight. The UnionPay app can also pay through J-Coin Pay with the Code payment icon (checked 17 October 2026).

A UnionPay debit card is refused at the till even though it has the UnionPay mark. Bring a credit card, cash in yen or a scan-to-pay app.

Seven Bank says a card may still be refused even with a listed mark, and that the fee differs by card brand. It does not list the amounts.
