Power banks on 99 airlines flying to Japan. From each airline's own pages, checked 2 October 2026 to 11 October 2026. — means the page we read gives no number.

How we counted
Not to be used on board means the airline says you may not use a power bank during the flight. The Wh limit is the largest power bank the airline allows, including sizes that need the airline's approval. The number per person counts power banks only: Air Canada and SriLankan Airlines give a limit for all spare batteries together, so they are counted as no number. For the overhead bin, an airline that only recommends not using it (China Airlines) is not counted.
Open a row to see the airline's own wording. 39 airlines have a page with their full power bank rules; for the others, the name links to the airline's baggage page.
Japan's Civil Aviation Bureau (Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism) asks passengers to follow these rules. The limit of 2 per person started on 24 April 2026.
- Never in checked baggage: always take power banks into the cabin.
- Over 160 Wh: not allowed.
- Up to 2 power banks per person (from 24 April 2026).
- Do not charge a power bank on board, for example from the seat power outlet (prohibited).
- Do not use a power bank to charge other devices on board.
- Do not put it in the overhead bin. Keep it at hand, for example in the seat pocket.
- Protect each one from short circuits, for example with insulating tape on the terminals or a case.
Some airlines have stricter rules than these, so follow your airline's rules. In the table, 77 of the 99 airlines say a power bank is not to be used on board.

52 airlines allow power banks up to 160 Wh and 27 allow up to 100 Wh. 20 do not give a number on the page we read.
Working out the Wh of your power bank
Wh = rated capacity (mAh) × rated voltage (V) ÷ 1,000. In the example from Japan's Civil Aviation Bureau, a 27,000 mAh, 3.7 V power bank is 99.9 Wh.
