Can I use my phone charger in Japan? Voltage and plugs
Yes, if the INPUT line on the charger includes 100V. Apple says its USB power adapters are designed for 100–240V AC at 50–60Hz. The plug is the other check: Japan's outlets take Type A plugs with two flat pins (JNTO).
Works if INPUT includes 100V
Read the INPUT line first
INPUT is what the charger takes from the wall. Japan supplies 100V, so 100V has to be inside the range.

The plug: Type A in Japan
Japan's outlets take Type A plugs (JNTO). Panasonic lists Type A and B for Japan.
- Two flat parallel pins: fits Japan's Type A outlets. Official pages describe this plug for China, Taiwan, the United States, Thailand, the Philippines and Canada.
- Two flat pins and a round earth pin (Type B): needs a socket with the third hole. JNTO names Type A for Japan's outlets; Panasonic lists Type A and B. Used in Taiwan and Mexico.
- Round pins: a plug adapter to Type A. Used in South Korea, China, Thailand, Singapore, Vietnam, Indonesia, France, Germany, India, Italy and Spain.
- Three rectangular pins: a plug adapter to Type A. Used in Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia and the United Kingdom.
- Two flat pins in an inverted V: a plug adapter to Type A. Used in Australia.
- Three pins in a triangle: a plug adapter to Type A. Used in China.

Wall outlets and power strips
NITE, Japan's product safety body, gives 1500W as the limit for a two-socket wall outlet in a home.
In English: Wall outlets in homes are commonly two-socket outlets. In that case, up to 1500W in total can be connected to the two sockets.
In English: Going over the power or the rated current you can connect makes heat. The plug of a power strip can overheat, or the insulation of a cord can break or short out, leading to accidents such as a fire.
