Narita Express (N'EX): fares, tickets, stops and the round-trip ticket for visitors

The Narita Express, written N'EX, is JR East's limited express from Narita Airport to Tokyo, Shinagawa, Shibuya, Shinjuku and Yokohama without a change of train. JR East gives 53 minutes to Tokyo Station on the fastest train. A one-way ordinary seat to Tokyo costs 3,140 yen, and visitors can buy a round trip for 5,200 yen.

Terminal 1 is a 5-minute walk from Narita Airport Station. Terminals 2 and 3 are a 5-minute and a 10-minute walk from Narita Airport Terminal 2·3 Station.

A limited express unreserved seat ticket costs the same as a reserved seat ticket. With it you take any vacant seat.

Holders of a non-Japanese passport. You show the passport when you pick the ticket up.
What it covers
One ride from Narita Airport into the Tokyo area, and one ride back to Narita Airport, within 14 days. The two rides do not have to use the same station.
Direction
The first ride is from Narita Airport toward Tokyo. Starting in Tokyo and returning from the airport is not allowed.
Changing trains
After the Narita Express you can change to other JR trains inside the covered area at no extra cost, as long as you stay inside the ticket gates.

Only at Narita Airport Terminal 1 Station and Narita Airport Terminal 2·3 Station.
Counters and hours
JR EAST Travel Service Center 8:30–19:00 at Terminal 1 and 8:30–20:00 at Terminal 2·3. Ticket machines with passport readers and JR Ticket Offices 6:30–21:45 at both.
Compared with ordinary fares
An ordinary round trip costs 6,280 yen to Tokyo, 6,660 yen to Shinagawa, Shibuya or Shinjuku, and 8,960 yen to Yokohama.

How to buy a ticket and reserve a seat

  • Online from overseas through JR-EAST Train Reservation, where you also check train times.
  • At a JR EAST Travel Service Center or a JR Ticket Office (Midori-no-Madoguchi), up to one month before the day you ride.
  • At a reserved seat ticket vending machine, which works in English, Chinese and Korean and takes 1,000, 2,000, 5,000 and 10,000 yen notes and credit cards.
  • With a Suica or another IC card for the basic fare, plus a limited express ticket.
  • With a pass: the JR EAST PASS and the JR TOKYO Wide Pass can be used together with a reserved seat ticket.
